Residents Feel Tremors in Naples

A magnitude 3.6 earthquake struck the Campi Flegrei region of Italy on Thursday, March 23, 2023. The quake was centered near the town of Pozzuoli, just northwest of Naples. According to the Italian National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), the quake occurred at a depth of 2 kilometers (1.2 miles).

Residents in Pozzuoli and nearby towns reported feeling tremors from the quake. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, but the INGV is advising residents to remain cautious as aftershocks are possible.

The Campi Flegrei is a volcanic area that has experienced numerous earthquakes in the past. In 2017, a swarm of earthquakes shook the region, causing widespread damage and prompting the evacuation of thousands of residents. The INGV is closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as they become available.
