Chiefs' Thompson Recovering After Seizure, Cardiac Arrest
Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman BJ Thompson is awake and responsive after suffering a seizure and cardiac arrest in a team meeting on Thursday, June 6.
Thompson, 25, was taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance from the Chiefs practice facility after having the seizure and going into cardiac arrest, the team said in a statement on Friday, June 7.
The team said Thompson is in stable condition at the University of Kansas Medical Center. The Chiefs canceled practice on Friday in light of Thompson's medical emergency.
Thompson, a defensive end, has been with the Chiefs since 2023. He played in all 17 games last season, starting 10.
The Chiefs said they are "grateful for the quick actions of our medical staff and the medical personnel at the hospital."
The team said it will provide more updates on Thompson's condition as they become available.
